[Internet Software]
Situation
San Diego entrepreneurs wanted to provide Internet access from kiosks in public places, hotels, etc. and had built a beta version of software allowing people to do that from any Windows-based PC kiosk.
They had 'bootstrapped' development and were seeking first round funding from local investors to complete the software and build a management team for commercialization. They wanted a market endorsement - "proof of acceptance" - to increase investor confidence during their pitch process.
Approach
Strategy: gain quality recognition elsewhere before gaining it at home. Produced one dozen handmade press kits. Three were given to executives for investor presentations. Marinou kept nine to pitch reputable press.
Results
Gained national and international editorial exposure, with local "pick-up." Examples included an Associated Press story with photos of founders, and a feature in a newly-founded business magazine with worldwide distribution (Corporate Online, London).
